HUM 8: Leadership & Morality: Leadership & Mortality

An examination of leadership qualities and morality through biographical research

The purpose of this project is to apply what we have learned about morality and moral development and use that knowledge to examine ONE decision made by a historical figure and evaluate the moral philosophy and stage of moral development/reasoning of that ONE decision.

Guiding Questions:

  • How do we understand and evaluate the moral/ethical philosophy and the moral reasoning used by our leaders?
  • Why is it important to look thoughtfully and critically at a leader's moral reasoning?
  • How does this relate to civic engagement?
  • Should we hold our leaders/public figures to a higher moral/ethical standard?
