How to take Notes

PLAGIARISM (using another's information without credit) happens most often because of unorganized NOTES!

Avoid Plagiarism: Use The Rule of THREE

Keep these three pieces of information together in your notes

  • Quoted or paraphrased information (use quotation marks if it's quoted!)
  • Your thoughts about that information (a summary, a question, a comment)
  • The source of that information

Use Cornell Notes for best results

How to Synthesize

Once you have gathered enough notes to answer your questions, you bring the information together (synthesize) to form your own presentation of the information.

Synthesis Steps:

  • Look over the information
  • Identify common categories
  • Code the categories (colors, numbers, letters, ?)
  • Copy/paste or rewrite information into your categories
